There are simple geometric patterns on the silk fabrics of Shang and Western Zhou Dynasty. It can be seen that there were already jacquard machines at that time.
During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States period, complex and changeable patterns of birds, beasts, dragons and phoenix appeared on the quite exquisite brocade and wenqi. It can be seen that the jacquard device has changed from simple to complex. It should have used the horizontal hanging jacquard and the jacquard with pedals. Needle loom machine, and it is possible to improve the use of thread heddles to lift a single warp to integrate the threads that make the same lifting motion into a bundle, that is, the heald, and lift them together. The Han Dynasty jacquard fabrics discovered by archeology are mainly Wenqi, Wenjin and Wenluo.
